A privately owned company dating back to 1850, Henriques & Henriques is the largest independent producer and shipper of Madeira. The Henriques family can be traced back to the 15th century, and were responsible for the first vine plantings on the island, around the year 1425. In the early 1990s the company invested heavily in the winery and vineyards, and quality was raised considerably. Acknowledged as one of the most consistent producers of Madeira, the wines of Henriques & Henriques always offer exceptional quality, depth of flavour and great value for money. This particular release is a special single vintage bottling taken from the 1998 harvest which is produced from the grape variety Tinta Negra Mole. The nose is multi-layered and inviting, with indulgent notes of caramel, toffee, walnut, raisins and a hint of coffee beans. The palate is sweet but perfectly balanced with firm acidity, and displays delicious flavours of citrus fruit, caramel, hazelnut and chocolate. Persistent and crisp on the finish, this would make an excellent accompaniment to rich desserts and chocolates or can be enjoyed as a digestif.
