Tavel is one of France’s historic and revered rosé wines, with origins dating back to Roman times and a reputation for full bodied, complex and structured wines. Based imbetween the Rhone valley and Provence, Tavel is an unique area that solely produces rosé wines that are in huge local demand and rarely encountered outside of France. Prieuré de Montézargues produces only one wine and is undoubtedly one of Tavel’s leading producers, boasting a history that dates back to 1199. The wine itself is predominantly composed of Grenache and Cinsault but includes other grape varieties in the blend. Deep in colour and expressive on the nose, this wine suggests notes of violet, grapefruit, plums and cherry. The palate is full and rich with a crisp backbone of acidity and great depth of flavour. A wonderful rosé to partner with food, this wine would work well with a number of fish dishes.
