Based in the Patagonia area of southern Argentina, Bodega Noemia is an ambitious and acclaimed winery situated in the middle of a desert. This extreme winemaking is only made possible by irrigation channels excavated by British colonists in the 1820s. This bone dry climate allows a minimal intervention approach, with organic viticulture and a low use of sulphur. Stylistically the wines produced are marked by subtlety and finesse, with a concentration of flavour and an impressive purity of Malbec fruit. The wine A Lisa is produced from very low-yielding old vineyards and represents a blend of 90% Malbec and 10% Merlot that has been aged in oak for a period of 10 months. Deep purple in colour, intense aromas of spice, currants, vanilla, mineral and a hint of violets are suggested. In the mouth this is full-bodied with big and ripe tannins, lots of blackberry flavour and a long bitter cherry and chocolate finish. Impressively long with a suppleness and elegance, this wine is a fabulous expression of Argentinian Malbec which would beautifully partner a range of rich red meat dishes.
