Made from 100% old vine Grenache, Gelateo is fortified on skins to reduce oxidation before being aged in oak cask for a minimum of six months. The resultant wine has a luscious sweetness and impressive weight which is beautifully balanced by fine acidity and an elegant structure. Aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant, mineral, herbs and earth are captured on a brooding, attractive nose whilst the palate boasts flavours of cherry, dark chocolate, nutmeg, vanilla and Mediterranean herbs. A lovely example of Banyuls that shows remarkable elegance and finesse, Gelateo is delicious to drink on its own or pair with a range of chocolate based desserts.£5 per 100.00ml
Coume del Mas was started by the Gard family in 2000 and now represents one of the leading estates in the Roussillon area of southern France. Originally an agricultural engineer, Philippe Gard set about finding wonderful old vines around the appellations of Banyuls and Collioure to make fine wines. This particular wine is produced in a similar way to port and offers a great alternative for lovers of sweet fortified wine styles.
