Romano dal Forno, located in Illusi East of Veneto, was established as recently as in the 1980s but has already become one of the uncrowned wine kings of Veneto. A true style icon for the region, Dal Forno has amassed a dedicated following of connoisseurs all over the world, all eager to get hold of these limited production wines. All grapes are hand-picked and undergo rigorous sorting to ensure that only the best grapes are selected. With some of the lowest yields in the region, it takes six vines to create a single bottle of Valpolicella, and as such there will never be enough wine produced to satisfy the world-wide demand. Romando dal Forno Valpolicella 2008 is a typically superlative release which is beautifully perfumed on the nose and scented with notes of blueberries, blackberries, cherry and chocolate. On the palate the tannins are soft and structured, whilst the ultra-concentrated flavour profile suggests notes of juicy ripe berries, jam, toasty oak and sweet spices. Whilst drinking gorgeously well now, this will continue to improve over the next decade and beyond, and is the perfect partner to rich dishes such as hare and offal.
