This modern day South African take on the Appassimento wine styles of Veneto has a natural concentration and velvet character that is quite unique. The wine is made using partially dried grapes in an age-old practice best known in Valpolicella and which is responsible for Amarone, Recioto and Ripasso styles of wines. Chocoholic is composed of two distinctly differing Pinotage components. 20% of the cuvée, representing the most concentrated, richly flavoured juice, is created by twisting the grape stalks to induce a raising of the fruit whilst it remains on the vine. Dense, bright and concentrated, the Chocoholic Pinotage offers up notes of roasted coffee, damson jam and sweet raspberry liqueur on the nose. Vanilla richness and notes of crème brûlée lead to a full throttle palate of concentrated, mouth-coating richness. Flavours of redcurrant jelly, purple berried fruits and bittersweet cocoa notes are suggested, whilst the Amarone-like weight of the wine leads through to a concentrated and indulgent finish. A unique and delicious release, Chocoholic makes a delightful partner to rich red meat dishes and chocolate-based desserts. Beautifully presented in a limited edition gift tin.
