Named after the 17th century Benedictine monk credited as the person who 'invented' Champagne, Dom Pérignon is one of the world’s most famous wine brands. Originally registered by Eugène Mercier, the brand name Dom Pérignon was soon sold to Moët & Chandon and the first vintage of this legendary Champagne was subsequently released in 1937. Representing a blend composed of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, only the very best grapes are used to create Dom Pérignon and the production process employed is lengthy and meticulous. In its youth, Dom Pérignon boasts a smoothness and creamy fruit character with perfect balance and weight. As it ages, it takes on wonderfully toasty aromas and a finesse equalled by very few other Champagnes. The Dom Pérignon Oenothèque range was launched in 2000 with a rotating release of small volumes of older vintages going back to 1959. This incredibly rare 1962 bottling is now fully mature and wonderfully opulent in character. Deep gold in colour, the nose boasts a complex and developed array of leather, spice, blossom, sandalwood and dried fruit. Powerfully flavoured in the mouth, this is a textural, intense and mesmerising Champagne which has incredible depth and epic length. Developed and savoury in style, this exquisite rare release - disgorged in 2002 - is presented in a striking wooden presentation box and would make an unforgettable gift for any Champagne lover or wine collector.
