Encompassing 30 hectares overlooking the village of Vouvray, Domaine Huet produces some of the greatest expressions of Chenin Blanc anywhere in the world and is regarded as being one of the Loire Valley’s star wine estates. Founded in 1928 by Victor Huet, it was his son, the late Gaston Huet, who helped to establish the Domaine’s reputation for producing exceptional wines from the three famed single vineyards, Le Haut-Lieu, Le Clos du Bourg and Le Mont. Following the purchase of Domaine Huet by New York businessman Anthony Hwang in 2003, the winery has benefitted from considerable investment, whilse the team has worked tirelessly to maintain the spirit of the estate. Hailing from a cooler vineyard site where the grapes are the last to ripen and subsequently often the most concentrated, this is Huet’s driest example of Vouvray. Aromatic and pronounced on the nose, offering aromas of white peach, lemon and apple, fennel and wet slate. Lean, crisp and focussed on the palate, this wine is held together with finely balanced acidity along with mineral, spice and orchard fruit flavours which carry through to a long finish. Whilst deliciously fresh and vibrant now, this wine will develop amazingly well over the next couple of decades, acquiring richness, texture and dimension with age.
