Christine Dupuy of Domaine Labranche Laffont is one of Madiran's finest winemakers and boasts some of the oldest vines in the entire appellation. Low yielding vines, optimum maturity for grape picking and a gentle touch when it comes to extraction and use of oak help to give her wines freshness and balance.
Madiran's Labranche Laffont 11 is the Domaine’s old vine release, which is made from vines carrying an average age of 50 years (with one small parcel of ‘pre-phylloxera’ vines being an incredible 130 years in age). The resulting wines are modern and generous in style yet still offering a good representation both of the Madiran appellation and the variety Tannat. Intense and brooding on the nose, this full-bodied red offers aromas of ripe cassis, pencil shavings, bay leaf and liquorice on the nose, whilst the palate is weighty and intense with concentrated blackberry and blackcurrant flavours plus a hint of spice. A serious and rewarding winter red that deserves to be paired with full flavoured red meat dishes for ultimate enjoyment.
