Dry River is one of New Zealand’s most revered and iconic wineries. Established in 1979, the cool climate and poor soil of the Martinborough area, married with Dr Neil McCallum’s insistence on tiny yields and utmost dedication to quality, has resulted in propelling these special wines to international stardom. Produced in tiny quantities of only 2,000 -3,000 cases a year, availability is scarce and export allocations strictly limited. This wonderfully expressive example of the sometimes temperamental Viognier is a prime example of Dry River’s quality. Exotically perfumed and dazzlingly aromatic, the nose displays an expressive array of apricot, guava, honeysuckle and toast aromas. Lusciously textured on the palate, this wine displays flavours of white grape, peach, fresh apricots and lime zest. Intense, deep, perfumed and opulent, this is a wonderful example that is best enjoyed with rich poultry and fish dishes.
