Tùsail represents the sixth release from Glenmorangie's award-winning Private Edition series, and could well be the best yet. Produced from a carefully selected parcel of maris otter barley, this whisky was floor-malted by hand in the traditional method, and is non chill-filtered. A rich winter variety of barley first introduced in 1965, maris otter was bred specifically to meet the demand for a high quality brewing malt and recognised for its ability to impart rich, rustic malty flavours. Now used only by a select few who continue, like Glenmorangie, to uphold an ethos of sacrificing yield for quality by using only the finest ingredients, the result is a whisky celebrating the variety’s renowned taste profile. Deep and earthy on the nose, robust aromas of malt and biscuit tones are set against indulgent suggestions of nut and toffee. In the mouth, a rich and rustic flavour profile reveals layers of nut, toffee, sweet barley malt, ginger, cinnamon, and dates – complementing Glenmorangie’s more familiar notes of peach, orange and smoked pear. Long and lingering on the finish with a mouth-coating conclusion, this rare release would make an excellent addition to any serious whisky collection.
