James E. Pepper first started selling his brand of whiskey in 1890, inheriting these skills from his grandfather Elijah Pepper who started distilling in America in 1776. The brand has since been sold and the distillery moved, but the new owner, Georgetown Trading Company, has undertaken careful and extensive research to recreate the old legendary whiskies in accordance to the old recipes. Made with a mash-bill that features over 38% rye, and bottled at 50% ABV, 1776 is full of spiciness and flavour, making it a great whiskey to mix with. Vibrant and full-bodied in character, with notes of orange zest, clove, chocolate and honey, this is a rye drinker’s rye that is long and very spicy on the finish.
