Man O’ War was established in 1993 on Waiheke Island and today is one of New Zealand’s fastest emerging and most exciting producers. Owning 76 individual hillside vineyard blocks - each with a distinct soil profile and microclimate - Man O’ War produce a wide range of award winning wines that meticulously match each vineyard site with the most suitable grape variety. The unique range of wines produced combines classic Old World techniques with innovative New World ideas, and are distinctly different from any other New Zealand wines. This particular release is modelled on the wines of Bordeaux and is a “right bank” blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet purple in colour, this wine shows lifted aromas of crushed red berries and cassis with hints of floral perfume, clove, Mediterranean herbs and cedar. The palate is smooth and vibrant with concentrated flavours of ripe red berry fruits, a hint of assorted spices and supple approachable tannins. Long and persistent on the finish with some complex developing undertones, this wine would pair well with red meat dishes and cheese plates.
