In 1693 German immigrant Henning Husing found the Meerlust estate and immediately recognised its great beauty and potential. With the manor house sitting on a granite outcrop only five km from False bay, the estate was named Meerlust, meaning ‘’pleasure of the sea’’. Since 1756, and for eight generations, making wines on the Meerlust Estate has been a family tradition for the Myburghs. Today run by Hannes Myburgh, the estate focuses on Bordeaux blends after Hanne’s father travelled to Bordeaux and was inspired by the similarities of terroir that Meerlust shares with Bordeaux. Rubicon is their Flagship wine and occupies its rightful place among the finest Bordeaux blends in the world. Deep, youthful colour with an intense purple hue, the expressive nose displays classic notes of violets, ripple plum and cedar wood. On the palate it is full bodied, structured, but packed with fresh dark fruit and rounded, linear tannins. Beautifully presented in its own branded gift tin, this makes a perfect gift for new world wine lovers. Best when paired with venison, game, pot roast or cheese.
