Monte Santoccio Amarone is the producer’s top release and is only made in tiny volumes of around 400 bottles a year. Composed of a varietal blend of 95% Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Molinara - along with 5% Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon - the grapes used were semi-dried for four months before being vinified and aged in oak for 30 months. Commanding and intense on the nose, this wine displays a wide array of complex aromas which include raisins, coffee, ripe plums, vanilla and leather. The palate is incredibly weighty and very intense with a sweet richness and ripe fruit quality that coat the mouth and last long on the finish. Velvety, warm and layered, this excellent wine would make a comforting partner to rich game and red meat dishes or flavoursome cheese boards.£6.6 per 100.00ml
Monte Santoccio is a dynamic new project from famous Italian winemaker Nicola Ferrari. Ferrari built his reputation whilst working at iconic winery Quintarelli but decided to start his own venture with the objective of having complete control over the winery, vineyards and production. This, he believes, is required to obtain maximum quality. The initial releases have been incredibly impressive and unanimously acclaimed, both for their quality and also for offering outstanding value for money.
