Ocean Eight is a family owned estate run by Chris and Gail Aylward, who set up the winery in 2004 on Tucks Road Shoreham, on the southern, cooler side of the Peninsula. There are 17 hectares under vine at Ocean Eight and these vineyards were carefully selected for their potential for fantastic pinot noir and chardonnay. A small volume state-of-the-art, temperature controlled, gravity-fed winery was built into the hillside at their property. Ocean Eight is named after the eighth hole of the Ocean Golf Course at the nearby National Golf Course at Cape Schanck on the Peninsula.
At this youthful stage the wine is very fruit dominant in aromas, with raspberries and red cherries being the most apparent. Underpinning the fruitiness is some autumnal dried leaf and earthiness, and a chewy layered texture defines the palate which has abundant weight and intensity.
