The Philipponnat family has been based in the Champagne region since the 17th century and began producing Champagne in the middle of the 19th century. Family owned to this day, Philipponnat is one of the principal owners of grand and premier cru vineyards in the heart of Champagne, comprising mainly Pinot Noir grapes. The emphasis is on quality and no corners are cut. Harvesting is carried out entirely by hand and the vinification process is slow and traditional leading to rich and rounded Champagnes of great depth and distinction. Philipponnat Clos des Goisses is a blend of 65% Pinot Noir and 35% Chardonnay and hails from a unique vineyard of almost unparalleled quality. Representing one of Champagne’s greatest wines, Clos des Goisses boasts outstanding longevity and balance. Deep gold in colour, it displays a complex nose exhibiting toasty notes along with flavours of baked apple, cinnamon, butter and dried apricot. Full and flavoursome in the mouth, a fine and indulgent stream of bubbles lifts the toasty, nutty, intense flavour profile which is perfectly balanced by a crisp backbone of acidity. Due to the difficult vintage, this wine is already opulent and generous and will drink exceptionally well over the next 5 years and beyond.
