Savoury, alluring and multi-faceted on the nose, this wine exhibits notes of leather, pepper, balsamic, and dark fruits of the forest. Medium bodied, finely structured, and impeccably balanced, this wine displays a Northern Rhone-like quality with a meaty and perfumed dark fruit assortment that dazzles the palate. This wine is a delicious pairing for charcuterie, oily cured fish, fish stews and blood sausage. You can also take inspirations from the Croatian locals who make 'Istarska supa', a slightly warmed broth of Teran with toasted country bread, olive oil, sugar and black pepper.£2.63 per 100.00ml
Founded in 2004 by young and passionate winemaker Dimitri Brecevic, Piquentum is a boutique, modern, Croatian winery concentrating only on indiginous grape varieties. Based in a building once used as an atomic bunker during the second world war, production is tiny with only three wines being produced. This particular release is made 100% from the local variety Teran - a grape that can be tough and tannic if not done well, but if produced with care like in this wine, it can be potentially majestic.
