A blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot, ageing in 50% new French and American oak barriques for 20 months contributes to the subtle layering of flavours. Opulent and powerful on the nose, aromas of mocha, cinnamon, vanilla and cedar are all suggested whilst the palate is full bodied and intense with a delicious bitter sweetness that recalls chocolate, black cherries and assorted spices. Although delicious to drink now, this cult release will continue to develop and improve over the next 10 – 15 years+.
Since its debut release in 1987, Joseph Moda has established itself as one of Australia's finest Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot blends. Combining Aussie know-how with his traditional Italian winemaking heritage, winemaker Joe Grilli air dries the finest McLaren Vale fruit on shaded outdoor racks for two weeks prior to crushing, concentrating the fruit so that it loses around 15% of its weight. Taking inspiration from Italian Amarone this technique creates an opulent, brooding wine with incredible depth.
