For many critics Rafael Palacios' Godellos have become the undisputed benchmark by which other Iberian white wines are judged. Produced on steep terraces from old vines in the northwest Spanish region of Valdeorras, these wines never fail to dazzle with a complex aromatic assortment on the nose and concentration and silkiness in the mouth. Louro, named after the vineyard from which it is produced, is one of Rafael's top releases and is a blend of 94% Godello along with 6% of the local variety Treixadura. Aromas of fennel, white flowers, peach and mango are revealed on a highly attractive nose whilst the palate is voluptuous and textural, combining herbal, fruit and mineral notes which are set against a crisp backbone of zesty acidity. A wonderfully rewarding introduction to one of Spain's most exciting emerging grape varieties.
