Established in 1850 by Gaston Briand, Ragnaud-Sabourin is one of the most prestigious estates in Cognac. Family owned to this day, the vineyards lie in the heart of the Grande Champagne area, where the chalky slopes bring a distinctive power to the base grapes. Unusually, all of the Cognacs are matured as vintage expressions; there is no blending between years, no sweetening and no colouring. The name of each release in the Alliance range refers to the minimum age of the cognac contained in the bottle. In this case, Alliance No.20 signifies a blend of cognacs that are at least 20 years old. Deep gold in colour, a mature and indulgent nose revels notes of vanilla, walnuts, dried apricot and coffee. Intense and lively on the palate, developed notes of toffee, hazelnut and sultana are set against a fruity core and lightly gripping tannins. Deep, succulent and warm on the finish, a subtle aftertaste of marzipan and vanilla lingers long on an impressive finish. An excellent example of Cognac that offers immense enjoyment and complexity.
