Speciality coffee is a passion of Roastworks who have sourced a range that consists of four single origin coffees and one espresso blend. They roast them in small batches using artisanal methods to highlight each coffee’s unique flavour characteristics.
The farm which sits on the slopes of the active Tacana volcano, right on Guatemala’s northern border, is managed by mother and son team Maeggi Rodriguez and Jorge Gallardo. It was purchased in 1959 by Maeggi’s father, Don Enrique, a man who was very much a pioneer of his time. He introduced three key principles that remain as important today as they were then: social responsibility, environmental sustainability and the production of very high quality coffee.
This is an extremely nuanced coffee, but the overwhelming character both in the dry grounds and in the cup is tropical fruits and nougat. It has a bright, juicy acidity and we picked up notes of melon, lime and a hint of orange which is rounded off with the lovely nougat sweetness and body.
