Rocche dei Manzoni was originally established in the 1700s, commencing its modern era in 1974, when a former Michelin-starred restaurateur, purchased the historic winery and its prestigious vineyards. Adopting a modern and experimental approach, Manzoni were the first estate in Piemonte to plant Chardonnay and also to innovate with small French oak barrels and biodynamic winemaking. This particular wine is the jewel in Manzoni’s crown; made only in exceptional vintages from vineyards in the famous Pianpolvere cru, and aged for seven years before release. Still youthful, yet beginning to show signs of early development, this wine displays beguiling aromas of leather, dark fruit, clove, liquorice and tobacco. Full bodied and structured on the palate, firm tannins and fresh acidity are set against a medley of complex savoury flavours and a floral, lifted overtones. A classic release from the stupendous 2004 vintage, this wine will continue to improve and evolve over the next 25 years and beyond.
