Tasting Notes

Santa Teresa 1796 is the top release from one of Venezuela’s finest rum producers. In 1796 the Santa Teresa Hacienda was established by the Count of Tovar y Blanco after being given the land by the king of Spain. 100 years later, new owner Gustavo Vollmer Ribas began producing rum on the hacienda. Santa Teresa 1796 Rum was launched in 1996 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the hacienda’s creation. The rum itself is a blend of their finest aged spirits that is further aged in a solera system - similar to the method used by sherry producers. The use of the solera method is unique to the rum world and works on the principle of fractional blending, introducing younger rums to older rums, with the resulting blend boasting a wonderful balance, character and complexity. A multi-layered and harmonious nose offer up aromas of honey, caramel, banana, walnut and vanilla. The palate is rich, expressive and velvety smooth displaying notes of coffee, molasses, dried fruit, caramel and spice. Displaying some sherry like notes, this is very much a sipping rum to be taken time over and savoured, either after a meal or whenever the occasion arises.
