Arguably Italy's most famous and collectable wine, Tenuta San Guido's Sassicaia has an iconic reputation built on incredible longevity and exceptional quality. The name Sassicaia translates as 'the place of many stones', and refers to the region's gravel rich soil, similar to that found in areas of Bordeaux which were an inspiration for the creation of this wine. Composed of a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc, the first release of Sassicaia was released in 1971 and was greeted with immediate acclaim. Since then this super Tuscan wine has gone from strength to strength and is always in high demand.
Displaying an intense deep ruby colour, the Sassicaia 1994 offers elegant and complex aromas of red fruit. On the palate it is rich and dense, yet harmonious, with sweet, balanced tannins. The wine has a long finish with a depth and structure that ensure its extraordinary longevity. Pair with braised meats and hard cheeses.
