The wine region of Nelson, located at the top of New Zealand’s South Island is currently delivering some of the most exciting wines coming from New Zealand as well as being regarded as the home of the country’s finest aromatic wines. Accounting for only a tiny amount of the country’s total wine production, and with only 32 wineries - all of which are family owned - Seifried Estate is the region’s most recognised name. The 2013 Seifried Riesling is a blend from both the Brightwater and Redwood Valley vineyards. The Brightwater fruit delivers powerful varietal floral characters and a real fruit purity, while the Redwood Valley fruit brings more textual components to the palate. Delicate fruit flavours and aromas were retained from the vineyard using careful canopy management. Grapes were picked at optimal ripeness and carefully selected, ensuring optimum quality. Citrus fruit driven, varietal and expressive on the nose, notes of mineral and white blossom are also suggested. Crisp, dry and mouth-watering on the palate, this wine has a lovely focus and delicate balance and would pair wonderfully well with scallops, prawns and similar seafood dishes.
