Stepp and Gaul is a recently established project headed up by winemaking duo Gerd Stepp and Matthias Gaul in the Pfalz region of Germany. Producing wines that are vibrant, clean, focused and dry, Stepp and Gaul is a name to watch and one of the country’s most modern and progressive producers. This particular wine is made from the variety Scheurebe; a rarely encountered grape that sits somewhere in the flavour spectrum between Riesling and Pinot Blanc. Delicately aromatic on the nose, nuances of yellow plums, lime, nectarine, jasmine and white pepper are all suggested. Crisp, zesty, dry and flavoursome in the mouth, flavours of pineapple, minerals, grapefruit and spice combine elegantly on a lively palate before culminating in a long, mouth-watering finish. A deliciously different and highly rewarding wine, this would pair wonderfully well with a range of delicate seafood dishes.
