La Solana represents the top release from Suertes del Marques, a modern quality focussed family run cellar that is based on the island of Tenerife. Produced from the local and relatively unknown variety Listán Negro, the grapes for this remarkable wine come from vines aged between 80 and 110 years old which are based on volcanic rocky soils. Following fermentation the wine is aged in concrete tanks and large oak barrels, which allows the fruit and terroir of this wine to be as expressive as possible. The resulting release is incredibly individual and compellingly fascinating. Peppery and pronounced on the nose, this red shows aromas of violet, graphite, mineral and blueberry. The palate is light and fruit-driven with great freshness and a complex savoury aspect. Structured, bright and youthful, this wine is best drunk young and would partner well with rustic red meat dishes.
