Gamay Noir is the grape of Beaujolais and typically produces fruit-driven red wines, bursting with bright, fragrant red-berry characters. Seldom encountered outside of France, this delicious example from the Hawke’s Bay region of New Zealand shows there is massive potential for this grape variety in the new world too. Vivid crimson in colour, with penetrating aromas of dark roses, cherry liqueur, crushed raspberry, and wild strawberry, this wine is ripe and juicy. Bursting with a mix of blackberry, red berry and cherry flavours, and supported by refreshing, silky tannins that extend the long finish, Te Mata’s Gamay Noir is an incredibly versatile wine. It is particularly good with spicy cuisines and is a perfect summer red; you can even chill it down a couple of degrees to accentuate the fruit.
