The origins of Il Poggione dates back to the late 1800s when it was first established by the Franceschi family just below the beautiful hilltop town of Sant’Angelo in Colle. It is today one of the highest regarded producers of Montalcino, renowned for wines that boast incredible power and remarkable longevity. The winemaking team - father and son Fabrizio and Alessandro Bindocci - hold traditional values in their wine-making style, and only use large oak casks in order to make sure that the wood flavour does not interfere with the natural expression of their Brunello di Montalcino. Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a classic expression of this region which is only made in superior vintages. Alluringly perfumed and multi-faceted on the nose, aromas of by freshly cut flowers, dark raspberries, spice and mint are all suggested, set against attractive developing overtones. Full bodied and concentrated in the mouth, rich flavours of sweet plums and blackberries are lifted by rose and floral notes, along with a savoury leathery depth. The tannins are velvety-smooth and the finish is long and evolving. Whilst delicious in its youth, this stunning Brunello will age well for 20 years and beyond, making it a wonderful addition to any wine cellar.
