Arguably one of Italy’s most prestigious producers, Tenuta San Guido presented the first release of Le Difese in 2003, a wine representing something of a mini Super Tuscan which allows wine drinkers to experience the qualities of Tenuta San Guido without the need for long ageing! A blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Sangiovese, the fruit for this wine was selected from Tenuta San Guido estate’s younger vines. Fermentation for both varieties took place on the skins in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats for 12 days. The wine was matured for 12 months in second hand oak barrels. A supple and fruit driven wine with plenty of length and fine depth, its bouquet of soft plums and blackcurrants leads to a smooth palate with elegant black cherry fruit flavours which mingle with hints of Mediterranean herbs and spices. Smooth and refreshing, a remarkably balanced wine, delicious from its release. Drink 2015-2020.
