Arguably Italy's most famous and collectable wine, Tenuta San Guido's Sassicaia has an iconic reputation built on incredible longevity and exceptional quality. The name Sassicaia translates as 'the place of many stones', and refers to the region's gravel rich soil, similar to that of areas of Bordeaux which were an inspiration for the creation of this wine. Composed of a blend of 85% cabernet sauvignon and 15% cabernet franc, the first release of Sassicaia was released in 1971 and was greeted with immediate acclaim. Since then this 'super-Tuscan' wine has gone from strength to strength and is always in high demand. Sassicaia 2010 is an elegant and structured release that promises to be a future classis. Intense and energetic on the nose, aromas of rosemary, plum, graphite, black olive and violet are set against a backdrop of toasty oak. Refined and fresh in the mouth, an incredible depth of flavour is revealed on a complex and layered finish that has great length. A dazzlingly excellent vintage from this cult name, this wine is sure to evolve and develop phenomenally well over the next 25 years and beyond.
