Founded in the mid 90s, Torbreck has quickly established itself as one of the most iconic and influential names in Australian wine. Although it is the producer's Shiraz based red wines that usually grab the headlines, this exceptional Semillon should not be overlooked. Representing one of the first white wine grape varieties planted in the Barossa around 160 years ago, the region is blessed with a heritage of old, low yielding Semillon vineyards. At Torbreck, Semillon is fermented in both stainless steel and seasoned French barriques and possesses a surprising old world character and elegance. Torbreck's Woodcutter's Semillon 08 offers complex aromas of smoked almonds, lemon, honeysuckle and butter, which grace a captivating nose. The palate is medium bodied and dry with a spicy mineral flintiness, rounded off with exotic fruit flavours. A perfect pairing for most sashimi and shellfish dishes, whilst delicious to drink now, this wine will continue to increase in complexity with time and age gracefully over the next five years.
