Austrian winemaker Rainer Wess established his own winery in 2003 with the goal of producing Grüner Veltliner and Riesling wines that would not only rank amongst the best of the Wachau Valley, but would also express his very personal style and philosophy of wine making. Pure, fresh and elegant in style, Wess places emphasis on letting his wines reflect the site from where they are sourced. Wachauer is the producer’s entry level Grüner Veltliner which is made from grapes that are sourced from several different terraced Wachau vineyards. Stylistically, it is a wonderfully pure and focused example, exhibiting notes of herbs, spice, citrus fruit and white pepper on a delightfully racy, crisp and dry palate. A real benchmark example of Austria's signature grape variety at a great price, this wine works wonderfully well with simple fish dishes such as oysters, mussels and clams.
