While Boekenhoutskloof was established in 1776 in the Franschhoek Valley, it is with the renovation and restoration of the farm in 1993 that it began its rising to prominence. A new planting programme was established and Boekenhoutskloof really began to gain cult following and quickly became one of South Africa’s most celebrated wineries.
This Semillon is sourced from one of the oldest vineyards in South Africa, dating 1902, and other two slightly younger vineyards in the Franschhoek Valley. The low yield of those parcels gives the wine an incredible intensity and concentration. The grapes are bunch pressed and allowed to ferment spontaneously in barrique and concrete eggs. A very small percentage of Sauvignon is blended in the wine prior to bottling.
A plethora of aromas come to the fore on the nose including honeysuckle, peach, lemon, orange blossom and hazelnut whilst the palate is elegant yet lively with a great mineral core, beautiful balance, poise and control. Whilst delicious to drink now this impressive wine will continue to develop and evolve over the next five years and beyond.£4.33 per 100.00ml
