November 2006 - Rejoice & Recycle

Harvey Nichols

The theme of recycling is used because at Christmas time we all generate even more waste than normal and the idea was for us to create amazing pieces out of old junk so that we see the beauty in everyday mundane items.

A series of Christmas trees were commissioned, each one made out of different everyday materials, many of which were sourced from junkyards and second hand shops so literally recycling the objects.  Each tree was meticulously created from a pile of junk into a beautiful object.

To continue the theme bundles of recycled materials are used in each of the windows onto which mannequins and gift product are displayed.

Across the ceiling of the windows grows a metal plant like sculpture, which is decorated with items, which tie into each of the trees.  Each window has different stunning male and female mannequins, with their make up & wigs relating to the theme of each window.  The clothes the mannequins are dressed is chosen to compliment each tree theme.

To give a Christmassy feel everything has glitter and sparkly jewels attached.  Dramatic lighting is used in the windows to enhance each individual tree, for example a warm flame effect for the crockery tree and a snow like effect for the alpine village tree.
