Liquid Gold Award – Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible 2019
90 points “Initially it’s a nut-filled experience with toasted walnuts pecans and Brazil nuts but an atypical spice appears that’s just lovely. Smoked hatch chiles mingle with rounded notes of cinnamon créme brûlée Bananas Foster orange canned peaches caramel chew and toffee. The pepper spices reappear for a grand finish.” – Whisky Advocate
1792 has been the Bourbon insider’s choice for many years and we’re pleased to welcome it into the fold at Harvey Nichols. For some inexplicable reasons the incredible Small Batch remains an under-the-radar gem.
Bottled at 46.85% and made to a ‘high rye’ recipe 1792 Small Batch is a marriage of select barrels lovingly chosen by their Master Distiller. Expect buttered and barbequed corn banana bread caramelised brown sugar pecan pie toasted sesame seeds ancho chilli cinnamon charred oak dark roast peanut butter smoke and charred oak. If only they made it in bigger batches!
Barton 1792 Distillery was established in 1879 and is the oldest fully operating distillery in Bardstown Kentucky. Their whiskey was originally known as Ridgewood Reserve 1792 but following a legal dispute with Woodford Reserve it’s now simply known as 1792. Just in case you were wondering 1792 was the year that Kentucky split from Virginia and became a state. Owned by Sazerac (also home to Buffalo Trace E.H. Taylor George T. Stagg Van Winkle W.L. Weller Blanton’s The Last Drop Distillers and many more) and boasting 29 warehouses for ageing barrels and 22 other buildings over a 196-acre site 1792 is a serious player. And that makes this bottling a must-try for Bourbon aficionados.
