Launched through Harvey Nichols, Spirit of Togetherness is the 2022 instalment in Absolut’s annual series of highly collectable limited editions. The design was inspired by Absolut’s love of mixing things up to create better outcomes, with that striking woven pattern illustrating how individual threads create something stronger when intertwined and pulled together. And it hit our shelves just before the holiday season, when friends and family rendezvous to strengthen those bonds.
In a post-pandemic era of war, political division, economic instability and the heightening climate crisis, this feels like a timely call to arms from the always outspoken Absolut brand. And they practice what they preach, because it’s a sustainable one too. The bottle – a collaboration between the design agency Brand Union Stockholm and Absolut’s glassworks partner Ardagh Glass – is crafted using 53% recycled glass, which is a phenomenal amount for a clear glass bottle. So, let’s be more transparent, look past our differences and raise a cocktail to the Spirit of Togetherness.
It was 1879 when production began in the gothic-looking red brick distillery in Åhus, a Swedish village famed for its beach handball tournament and eel parties. But when Absolut launched into the global market a century later, it completely redefined vodka. There’s now no brand in the spirit world more synonymous with nightlife, love and good times. Carbon neutral and big on recycling, Absolut is made using water pulled up from a deep well beneath the village and winter wheat that spends much of the year buried in snow. The result is a rich and smooth vodka, with a mellow complexity of dried fruit, rich tea biscuits, Shredded wheat cereal and cracked black pepper that has long-lasting appeal. And please remember to recycle or reuse your bottle when you're done.
