94 points “Gorgeous bright fruit with raspberries black cherries and lavender with some schist. It’s medium-bodied with very polished and integrated tannins that go on and on.” – James Suckling
Camins del Priorat is a wine that’s as stunning as its label. Regularly praised by Jancis Robinson MW for its “good value” this regional blend of 35% Grenache 24% Syrah 17% Cabernet Sauvignon 11% Carignan 10% Merlot and 3% other mystery varieties is matured in oak for around four to six months. The result is a dark chewy muscular and highly modern red but one that manages to be pretty and deeply drinkable at the same time. Crammed with crème de cassis blackberries blueberries fig dark chocolate liquorice balsamic coffee beans dried flowers and dry beach pebbles this is serious stuff for cold nights and big rich meals.
After studying winemaking in Bordeaux and two years working at Château Pétrus Álvaro Palacios spent a big chunk of the 1980s travelling all over Spain selling French barrels but all the while secretly looking for the perfect site to make Spain’s finest wine. He settled on the rugged terroir of Priorat and his wines l’Ermita and Finca Dofí shot to fame not only putting this region on the map but also completely redefining it. One of Spain’s most important and influential producers his wines should not be missed.
