This impressive 2023 single malt release from Ardnamurchan is the first spirit from the distillery that was matured entirely in sherry casks – that’s ex-oloroso and ex-pedro ximenez casks to be precise. Crafted using both peated and unpeated malt, this complex yet approachable dram has a rich and chewy texture and reveals abundant dried fruit notes of prune, caramelised cherry and raisin on the palate.
This distillery was opened on the remote Ardnamurchan (pronounced “ard-na-murkan”) peninsula by the independent bottler Adelphi, which obviously piqued the interest of all serious Scotch connoisseurs. Adelphi is Scotland’s most acclaimed bottler of rare and limited-edition Single Malt whisky. Their whiskies are both incredibly scarce and much sought-after – so much so that, on average, Adelphi only accepts a mere 4% of barrels that are offered. So, when they start making their own whisky, they have high standards to maintain and that makes them an intriguing prospect.
