“Now one of the hottest wineries in California.” – Antonio Galloni

When a wine critic that commands the respect Antonio Galloni does, says something like this, wine lovers need to sit up and take note. For over four decades the Miller family have sold their Bien Nacido grapes to the great and good of Californian wine; think Au Bon Climat, Qupé and Ojai to name just a few. In 2010 they started making their own wine to huge critical acclaim. The wines are created by Trey Fletcher, who is the protégé of Ted Lemon at Sonoma’s world-renowned Littorai Wines. According to Wine Enthusiast, he is “creating texturally tantalizing wines that are exciting to sip now but built to last for years in the cellar.” The pedigree of these wines is undeniable, the quality is irreproachable, but unfortunately, that brings with it extreme scarcity.

The Old Vines Reserve Pinot Noir is one of those wines that makes you exclaim, “OMG”, before dipping in for another unbelievable sip. It was matured in French oak for around 16 months and those precious barrels only yielded 53 cases. Expect deep concentration, vibrant cherry, wild strawberry, tangy rhubarb and notes of dried herbs and violets. And it’s not just us who love it, the critics seem impressed too…

96 points, “This old-vine bottling is redolent on the nose with savoury aromas of thyme, sage and wood spice as well as a brisk, snappy raspberry scent. The palate is loaded with elegant and enduring flavours of herb, spice and fruit, from sage sticks, charcuterie and eucalyptus to black raspberry, juniper and peppercorns. Complex already, this will grow with time. Drink now through 2043.” – Wine Enthusiast
