BILANCIA Syrah 2019
94 points “Quite a complex elegant and appealing Syrah with raspberry plum pepper and savoury dried herb flavours. Well-structured with peppery tannins that promise longevity without compromising accessibility.” – Bob Campbell MW
Sometimes called ‘Mr New Zealand Wine’ Bob Campbell was only the second wine writer in the world (after Jancis Robinson) to become a Master of Wine. So when he gives a review like that it’s worth taking notice especially at this price.
2019 was a great year for Hawke’s Bay Syrah making this red from Bilancia a must-try. The grapes came from a single vineyard on Roy’s Hill and were pressed into French oak barrels and allowed to ferment with indigenous yeasts. It remained on the lees for 10 months creating a wine that’s expressive vibrant and juicy. Expect a highly enjoyable mix of blackberries raspberries plums black pepper dried herbs autumn leaves and festive spices. It’s a great wine to have in the rack as the nights start drawing in and getting cooler or to sip while you wait for the Bilancia La Collina Syrah 2019 to come of age in your cellar.
