Introducing a phenomenally tropical limited edition from Black Tot: The Master Blender’s Reserve Rum 2021.
To make it Elixir Distillers took a batch of last year’s Black Tot 50th Anniversary Rum and re-casked it in Sherry butts. Inspired by the Royal Navy tradition of perpetual blending this was then combined with some original Royal Navy Blend (continuously blended in wooden vats from the early 1800s to 1970) and a selection of aged rums from top-quality distilleries in Guyana Jamaica Trinidad Barbados and Australia. The latter comes from Beenleigh Artisan Distillers – Australia’s oldest operating distillery – and it was chosen to commemorate the centenary of the last rum ration given to the Australian Royal Navy sailors. It’s the first time a rum from the land Down Under has featured in a bottle of Black Tot making this a unique new bottling. Also in the mix you’ll discover treacly liquid from lost distilleries such as the legendary Caroni as well as spirit from mighty producers that are still operating like the fantastically funky Hampden and the five-time consecutive winner of the International Spirits Challenge’s “Rum Producer of the Year” Foursquare. All of which makes this a monumentally historical tot.
Only 6 000 bottles were made. Luckily Harvey Nichols has managed to secure a dozen of those and they’re fiercely tropical. That’s no exaggeration this rich and full-bodied rum is practically busting out of the bottle with mandarin orange ripe mango flambéed banana grilled pineapple lemon thyme bergamot liquorice whisky marmalade and Mexican spiced chocolate. So remarkably fruit driven there really isn’t another rum like it on the planet. Anybody celebrating a life-changing event in 2021 could do worse than squirreling away a bottle of this to open on forthcoming special anniversaries.
