98 points “The aromatics here really seduce you with their blackberry and dried-strawberry notes and undertones of wet earth green tea dried flowers stones and dust. Full bodied tight and very focused with similarly complex character on the palate. More muscle than many previous vintages of this. Extremely long and juicy.” – James Suckling

97 points “It reveals some austerity and subtle aromas red and black fruit some spice and a medium to full-bodied palate with good tension and some austerity developing a shy note of thyme after some time in the glass. It's very balanced and tasty.” – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate

Fortuna Terrae means ‘luck of the land’ in Latin. And this is indeed a lucky wine that will offer pleasure immediately or in decades to come. Fortuna Terrae hails from a few rows of vines in a cool-climate and high-altitude vineyard which grow in deep loamy soils covered in native grasses. It’s called the Adrianna Vineyard but this is not just any old plot of vines. Planted in 1992 this is South America’s Grand Cru and will one day be right up there with the likes of La Tâche and Lafite. The lively biodiversity of this vineyard seems to be represented in the buzzing energy of the wine. Fortuna Terrae is compact elegant and beautiful almost as if it were designed in Scandinavia.

Matured in French oak for 18 months it’s packed with rich blackberry fruit struck through with notes of freshly laid tarmac rain on slate wild strawberry tea leaf peppery spices sea salt forest floor and olive. The acidity and mountain freshness make it so moreish. Must be steak night soon right?

Catena Zapata was named “The World’s Most Admired Wine Brand 2020” by Drinks International. Established in 1902 the bodega played a pioneering role in the explosion of Malbec and in exploring extreme high-altitude winemaking. Nicolás Catena Zapata a former Decanter Man of the Year is widely credited with putting Argentinean wine on the world map and should be placed on a level with the likes of Robert Mondavi in Napa and Angelo Gaja in Piedmont. “The most important winery in Argentina” according to Wine Advocate who also notes that: “the name Catena on the label is a guarantee of quality.” The winery is now run by Dr Laura Catena the fourth-generation vintner and a graduate of both Harvard and Stanford Universities who is fast becoming the face of Argentinian wine. When she’s not making wine or writing books she is a part-time physician of Emergency Medicine in San Francisco – a suitably remarkable winemaker for an equally remarkable estate.
