12 Volts 2017
91 points, “Ex-Anima Negra winemaker Francesc Grimalt and musician Sergio Caballero’s exciting project always hits the spot with this blend of local and international varieties… Dark berry fruit is lifted by winningly spicy freshness.” – Decanter Magazine
An effortlessly cool example of what modern Spanish wine can deliver, 12 Volts is the entry level expression from cult Mallorca-based producer 4 Kilos – a new emergence on the international wine scene that has put this island on the map as a serious wine producer. A blend of the indigenous Callet-Fogoneu, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, this wine is aged oak for 12 months before being bottled. A red wine of excellent balance and freshness (as befits a wine from a former Peñin ‘Winery of the Year’) this beguiling mix of local and indigenous grapes shows ripe red fruits, chocolate, leather and clove on the nose. On the palate, freshness shines through, creating a full-flavoured and juicy finish that lingers deliciously in the mouth. It also has an electric bolt of energy, as the name suggests. Great with grilled meat, wintry comfort food and flavoursome pasta dishes.
