Müller-Thurgau 2019

Tasting Notes
“Dry and aromatic with Alpine purity and freshness and a distinctive nettle streak, even a nip of sage, running through appetising elderflower, citrus and orchard fruit. There's no oak, but six months’ resting in tank on fine lees has rounded out the palate perfectly to complement the zippy, mountain acidity.” – Joanna Simon
One of the oldest and most highly respected cooperatives in all of Alto Adige, Cantina Andrian is a firm favourite at Harvey Nichols. Their version of this unfairly maligned grape variety proves just how good Müller-Thurgau can be. Tropical, floral, herby, crisp and perfectly balanced, everything is tightly packed in place, like Marie Kondo got her hands on it. Consider pairing with anything wrapped in crispy batter, from schnitzel to tempura, or alternatively Vietnamese summer rolls, quinoa and edamame salads, pea and asparagus risotto, or Thai sweetcorn fritters.
Müller-Thurgau was created by Dr Hermann Müller in the Swiss canton of Thurgau in 1882. Although this crossing of Riesling and Madeleine Royale has been overplanted and overexploited elsewhere, here in the Germanic, mountainous part of Italy called South Tyrol the locals have turned it into an art form.
