Cannonau di Sardegna 2019
£28.00
Tasting Notes
“This definitely belongs in the group of the most-winning examples of this grape. So gentle, refreshing and, despite the alcohol, pure and ethereal.” – Jancis Robinson
Cannonau is what the Sardinians call Grenache or Garnacha, and many of the locals will tell you that the island is the birthplace of the grape variety now famed throughout Rioja and the Rhône Valley. Grown on a pebbly ancient riverbed called the Mitza S’ollastu vineyard, Antonella Carda’s Cannonau di Sardegna 2019 was crowned a ‘Wine of the Week’ by Jancis Robinson and is described by Antonella herself as “one of the most beautiful ones we have done”. And being the granddaughter of Antonio Argiolas, the man who put this Italian island on the fine wine map, Antonella Carda is very much a winemaker to watch.
Organically farmed and vegan friendly, this wine blows across the palate with the freshness of a sea breeze. Crystal clean with the suggestion of cherries, raspberries, blackberries, white pepper, sea salt and rose petals, this is a simply stunning red to stock up on for the warmer months ahead.
