Manzoni Bianco 2014
The grape variety Manzoni Bianco may not be a household name, but it probably should be. A hybrid between Riesling and Pinot Blanc, it combines the aromatic quality of the first, with the peachy flavours and weight of the second.
This natural wine is made using organic fruit, native yeast and very little sulphur on a farm with a 300 year long history. Maso Furli is one of Trentino’s smallest producers, owning just four hectares of vineyards planted with five different grape varieties. Crafting just 6,000 bottles a year of this wine from half a hectare, it’s obviously very hard to find outside of Italy.
Full-bodied and remarkably rich, this is not a summer’s day sipper, it’s a wine that demands rich food like carbonara, bean stews, roast glazed ham, creamy artichoke dip or dishes drizzled with truffle oil. Invite some friends around and treat them to its roasted peach, baked apple, tangerine peel and rich creamy flavours.
