Launched in 1993 DoubleWood has become an iconic Single Malt. Balvenie’s long-serving and highly respected Master Distiller David Stewart MBE matures this Scotch in refill American oak casks for at least 12 years before finishing it in first-fill Oloroso Sherry butts for nine months. The barrels are then filled into a large oak vessel called a ‘tun’ where they are left to marry together for several months. Persistently a winner of medals at all whisky competitions this is one of the very best 12-year-old single malts on the market.
Honeyed granola golden sultanas toasted nuts stewed fruit sweet grapes raisins vanilla nutmeg cinnamon chocolate-covered gingerbread and notes of Oloroso Sherry. It’s double the wood double the fun. These 50ml bottles make great stocking fillers at Christmas or something to stow in the bag for a weekend away. We have a few of them left. Now there’s a stroke of luck.
