Ricasoli Raritas Chianti Classico Gran Selezione 2015 Gift Box 3 x 750ml

£240.00

This gift box is a once in a lifetime experience. Only 1411 numbered boxes were made (reflecting the earliest recorded reference to the Ricasoli family in this area of Tuscany) and each one contains the following three bottles:

  • Colledilà Chianti Classico DOCG Gran Selezione 2015 – 97 points, “This is a fantastic Gran Selezione with such finesse and beauty. Medium body, delicate tannins and a juicy finish. Love the plum and cedar character. So subtle and polished.” – James Suckling
  • Roncicone Chianti Classico DOCG Gran Selezione 2015 – 97 points, “Amazing aromas of black truffle and cherry with wet earth. Walnut also. Iodine. Rusty. Full body, intense acidity with a beautiful density and length. Fine tannins. Excellent finish.” – James Suckling
  • CeniPrimo Chianti Classico DOCG Gran Selezione 2015 – 98 points, “Great purity of Sangiovese with cherry, plum and fresh flowers. Hints of orange peel. Ash. Balsamico. Full body, with super velvety and fine-grained tannins. Glorious finish. Transparent and beautiful. Love the finish.” – James Suckling

These wines are Barone Ricasoli’s single vineyard Chianti Classico Gran Seleziones, and they are some of Tuscany’s finest. The American critic and expert in Italian wine, James Suckling, has described them as: “truly exceptional young and pure Sangioveses with distinctive character and superlative quality.” Three incredible crus in one box, each matured in oak for 18 months and all of them highly rated by the critics. The velvety Colledilà is a classic representation of the Brolio terroir with its red fruits, plums and wildflower scent; Roncicone comes from a plot with lots of fossilised marine sediment, imparting an elegant and food-friendly acidity; and finally there’s CeniPrimo, which displays sophisticated balsamic notes, hails from the smallest of the vineyards and is widely considered the finest of the bunch. 2015 was rated an ‘Outstanding’ vintage by the experts at Robert Parker, making this Sangiovese trilogy a sensational present for any fine wine connoisseur.

The Ricasoli family entered the wine arena in 1141. Owning Brolio Castle (the building that dominates the southern Chianti Classico countryside), they knew that the surrounding terroir was something special. 880 years later, the estate is run by Francesco Ricasoli, who is gradually turning the 1,200-hectare property – with 240 hectares of vineyards and 26 hectares of olive groves – over to sustainable farming and a more organic approach that promotes biodiversity.
